It is also known as clinical laboratory course and it is a four-year course with one year for internship. The duration varies with institutes and at some places it is for three years. The students learn about various diseases and their prevention in the course and they perform laboratory tests to diagnose the diseases. They learn about collection and sampling data with the course and they also learn about writing reports and documentation during the course. Their research skills are improved through bsc mlt. They come up with their findings by using laboratory tests using blood, body fluids and urine. They learn about bacteriologic, immunologic, chemical and microscopic tests during the programme. The fees for the course differs with institutes and it starts anywhere from 1 – 2 lakhs per year and in government colleges it is much lesser for mlt through bsc. Curriculum! Some of the subjects are human anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, physiology, pathology, sociology, database management, clinical endocrinology, toxicology lab, diagnostic molecular biology, bacteriology, etc. The students need to be observant and they should have an eye for detail. They should be patient and be able to work under challenging conditions at times. Without their reports, doctors cannot come up with accurate diagnosis so their findings need to be accurate. With practice their findings will be accurate. Careers! They are placed after the internships and they could find opportunities in lab settings. They could also work in big corporate labs and they are absorbed as research assistants, clinical lab scientists, biochemists, medical lab technologists, microbiologists, virologists, laboratory managers, etc. They are paid a salary of about 3.5 lakhs to 5 lakhs per annum at the starting of their career and it is slated to increase with experience.
